Specimen Declaration on admission to the degree
of Barrister-at-Law
ENTRANCE EXAM:
The Law
School of King’s Inns provides the course of education by
successful completion of which one may be admitted to the degree of
Barrister-at-Law and thereby entitled to be called to the Bar of
Ireland. Admission to the Barrister-at-Law degree course is via an
entrance exam. To be eligible to take the entrance exam a candidate
must hold either an approved law degree (see list of approved degrees
below) or the Society's diploma in Legal Studies.
Requirements for Admission in
2010
Applicants should be aware that
the core subjects and entrance examinations subjects change
for 2010. Please see the current edition of the Education
Rules for details. This affects candidates sitting the
Entrance Examination from 2010 onwards.
The applicant must show that, in the
course leading to the approved degrees, he/she has passed the following
core subjects required by the Society:-
- Land Law (including Law of
Succession)
- Equity
- Administration Law
- Company Law
- Law of the European Union
- Jurisprudence
The
Examination
The subjects for the entrance
examination 2010 are as follows:
- Law of Contract
- Criminal Law
- Irish constitutional law
- Law of Torts
- Law of Evidence
On successful completion of
the degree course students are conferred with the degree of
Barrister-at-Law. Only holders of the degree may be called to the Bar
by the Chief Justice and admitted to practise in the Courts of Ireland
as a member of the Bar of Ireland.
