Job Opportunity: Principal Prosecutors at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is recruiting senior lawyers at Principal Prosecutor level. Successful applicants must, on or before 21 November 2022, be enrolled as a Solicitor in the State or have been called to the Bar with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Solicitor or Barrister or have a minimum of 5 years’ experience.

A bit more about the role

This is a dynamic and challenging position where the candidate will be expected to quickly develop an understanding of the business operations of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Principal Prosecutors are expected to have a detailed knowledge and understanding of the criminal law and prosecution principles.

About the Office of the DPP Ireland

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was established by law under the Prosecution of Offences Act, 1974. Their mission is to provide a Prosecution Service that is independent, fair and effective. The Director is independent in the performance of her functions.

The Director enforces the criminal law in the courts on behalf of the People of Ireland; directs and supervises public prosecutions on indictment in the courts; and gives general direction and advice to the Garda Síochána in relation to summary cases and specific direction in such cases where requested.
