LSDSI activities at King’s Inns: 2018 McCarthy Impromptu Debate
The 2018 McCarthy Impromptu Debate took place on Wednesday 7 February before a busy dining hall. Full–time students Arthur Griffin and Patrick Fitzgerald, along with modular 1 student Deirdre Moore, debated the motion “This house believes that Brexit is a wonderful idea and that Ireland should also join the UK Exodus from the EU”.
The final of the Maidens’ Moot, an annual mooting competition aimed at students new to mooting, took place on Friday 19 January 2018. Unusually, both finalists, Conor Rock and Neasa O’Callaghan, were Diploma I students with only a few months’ experience of studying at King’s Inns.
“Bunreacht na hÉireann – Liberty’s Bulwark in an Age of Uncertainty” by Declan Harmon, LSDSI Auditor 2016/17
On Tuesday, 21st February 2017, our 187th Auditor of the Law Students’ Debating Society of Ireland (LSDSI), Declan Harmon, addressed an audience at King’s Inns for his Inaugural Address. This year’s Address was titled “Bunreacht na hÉireann – Liberty’s Bulwark in an Age of Uncertainty”.
“Congrats! You’re the Auditor” was the text message. In a long campaign, with five other candidates, I had already accepted defeat and gone to the gym. I was in shock when I heard the news. I ran up several flights of stairs to the Benchers’ Room where I was greeted by a round of applause and many kind congratulations from other candidates, staff, and students.
