Comhdháil ar dheiseanna do chéimithe dlí mar dhlítheangeolaithe leis an AE / Conference on opportunities for law graduates as lawyer–linguists with the EU

GA: Tá raidhse dheiseanna fostaíochta leis an AE i réimse na dlítheangeolaíochta. Tá Cúirt Bhreithiúnais an Aontais Eorpaigh i mbun Aonad Gaeilge a fhorbairt agus idir seo agus an 31 Nollaig 2021 fostófar os cionn 23 dlítheangeolaí ann. Ina theannta sin, i gcomhthéacs an Bhreatimeachta, is í Éire an tír is mó as a bhfostófar dlítheangeolaithe Béarla i ndiaidh 2019.

Chun post den saghas seo a fháil, is gá anuas ar bheith i do shaoránach den Aontas Eorpach, is gá céim dlí aitheanta NÓ cáilíocht ghairmiúil sa dlí mar abhcóide nó mar aturnae AGUS líofacht sa teanga a mbeidh tú ag aistriú isteach inti (Gaeilge/Béarla) agus dhá theanga eile de chuid an AE (is féidir Gaeilge nó Béarla a áireamh anseo). Tá pá agus coinníollacha den scoth i gceist mar aon le deiseanna dul le gairm níos taitheamhnaí fós leis an AE.

Beidh comhdháil tráthnóna á reáchtáil in Óstaí an Rí Dé Céadaoin an 7 Márta 2018 óna 7pm maidir le deiseanna fostaíochta mar dhlítheangeolaithe leis an AE. Osclóidh an tOnórach Seán Ryan, Uachtarán na Cúirte Achomhairc, an ócáid. Labhróidh an tArd–Aighne Séamus Woulfe SC faoin ról atá ag an Aos Dlí sa Tionscnamh Eorpach. Labhróidh Helen McEntee TD, an tAire um Ghnóthaí Eorpacha mar aon le Joe McHugh TD, Aire na Gaeltachta agus na Gaeilge agus M. Thierry Lefèvre, Ard–Stiúrthóir Ilteangachais Chúirt Bhreithiúnais an AE. Freisin labhróidh iar–dhlítheangeolaithe agus dlítheangeolaithe reatha leis an gCúirt.

EN: In the European Union, many employment opportunities present in the field of lawyer–linguistics. The CJEU is in the process of developing an Irish language unit and between now and 31 December 2021 it will need to recruit over 23 lawyer–linguists. Also in the context of Brexit, Ireland will become the main source for English language lawyer–linguists post 2019.

The requirements for such positions, apart from EU citizenship, are a recognised law degree OR professional qualification as a barrister or solicitor AND fluency in the language you will be translating into (Irish/English), and two other EU languages (which can include Irish/English). Pay and conditions are excellent and these positions are often a gateway to an even more rewarding EU career.

King’s Inns will host an evening conference Wednesday 7 March 2018 from 7pm on opportunities as lawyer–linguists with the EU. The Hon. Mr Justice Seán Ryan, President of the Court of Appeal will open the event. The Attorney General Séamus Woulfe SC will speak on the role of the legal profession in the European Project. Helen McEntee TD, Minister for European Affairs will address the conference as will Joe McHugh TD, Minister for the Gaeltacht and the Irish language, and M. Thierry Lefèvre, Director–General, DG Multilingualism, Court of Justice of the European Union. Other speakers will include former and current lawyer–linguists with the EU.
