King’s Inns Librarian appointed as President of the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians

Renate Ní Uigín, Librarian at The Honorable Society of King’s Inns became President of the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL) in June 2019.

Commenting on her appointment Renate said;

 “I am delighted and honoured to become the President of BIALL. As we begin our 51st year the value of our association in providing a platform for law librarians in Ireland and Britain to work together, learn together and share good practice has never been greater. I am looking forward to my term of office enormously.”

Renate began her career in law by qualifying and practising as a solicitor. She subsequently retrained as a librarian, acquiring a HDipLIS from UCD. Prior to joining King’s Inns in 2014, Renate worked at the Bar Council of Ireland Law Library.

King’s Inns would like to wish Renate the very best of luck in her Presidential role with BIALL and look forward to supporting her over the coming year.

British and Irish Association of Law Librarians 

The British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL), established in 1969, is an independent and self–supporting body promoting better management of law libraries and legal information units in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. BIALL represents the interests of law librarians, legal information professionals, and other suppliers of legal literature and reference materials.

BIALL has over 800 members, both personal and institutional, who work in the courts, Government departments, higher education, chambers, law firms, professional bodies, commercial and other organisations with legal information units, and in publishing and book supply.

BIALL provides training courses, conferences, journals and other publications, a website, mailing list, bursaries, and meetings for members. It promotes awards for excellence, and also co–operates with other organisations both nationally and internationally. biall.org.uk
