Eoin Higgins Memorial Moot Competition 2021

Eoin Higgins Memorial Moot Competition 2021

The King’s Inns team are preparing diligently for the forthcoming Eoin Higgins Memorial Moot Competition.

This important competition occurs annually and is contested by a team from the King’s Inns and Bar students from the Institute of Professional Legal Studies at Queen’s University, Belfast.

This year it is the turn of our colleagues in Belfast to host the competition, which will take place remotely on Friday 26 February. King’s Inns will be represented by four students drawn from both the full–time and modular Barrister–at–Law Degree Course.

The competition will be judged by a distinguished panel drawn from both jurisdictions: The Hon. Mr Justice O’Donnell of the Supreme Court of Ireland and The Hon. Mr Justice Scoffield and The Hon. Mr Justice McFarland, both of the High Court of Northern Ireland.

We wish both teams well in the competition and look forward to bringing the trophy back to King’s Inns!

About the Moot

The Moot is held in honour of Sir Eoin Higgins (1927 – 1993), who was a distinguished barrister and judge of the High Court of Northern Ireland. He was nominated as a Lord Justice of Appeal of Northern Ireland but died suddenly before he was due to take up his appointment. Mr Justice Higgins was an advocate for cooperation and friendship between both the Bar and the Judiciary in both jurisdictions on the island of Ireland and it is in that spirit that the competition takes place.
