McCarthy Impromptu Debate 2021

McCarthy Impromptu Debate 2021

The McCarthy Impromptu Debating Competition takes place on Monday, February 22, at 6.00 pm via Zoom.

There will be two or three student debaters speaking (briefly) on a motion that will have been given to them earlier that day. Contributions to the debate are generally light–hearted and humorous.

All students and members of King’s Inns are welcome to attend along with our wider alumni community. If you would like to attend the debate, please email David Curran at dcurran@kingsinns.ie. Registration is open up until 9 am on the morning of Monday 22nd.

We will contact you via email on the day with Zoom details.

About the Debate

This light–hearted debate takes place each year at King’s Inns to honour the memory of the late Mr Justice Niall McCarthy, Judge of the Supreme Court, and his wife, Barbara, who died tragically in a car accident in 1992. The debate is one of two ways in which King’s Inns marks the life and contribution to the legal world of the McCarthys; the other is through the McCarthy Bursary.
