ABOUT
Members & their guests are invited to join us for a celebratory dinner in recognition of Daniel O’Connell.
Daniel O’Connell (1775–1847), known as "The Liberator," was a prominent Irish political leader who championed the rights of Catholics and sought greater Irish autonomy within the United Kingdom.
Daniel O’Connell entered King's Inns in 1795 to train as a Barrister. He was called to the Bar in 1798.
The event marks the 250th anniversary of his birth.
Guest Speaker: Professor Patrick Geoghegan will present his talk on “Our Liberator – Daniel O’Connell, the law and his legacy”.
Professor Geoghegan is an expert on the British-Irish relationship in the late-eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, as well as on the competing themes of constitutional nationalism and republicanism.
President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, admitted as an Honorary Bencher of the Honorable Society of King’s Inns, will dine on the occasion.
