The Judicial Appointments Commission launches the selection process for Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU)

The Judicial Appointments Commission has received a request from the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration in accordance with the provisions of the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2023 that the Commission recommend candidates to permit the Government to nominate a person for the position of Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) for one reasonably anticipated vacancy.

Accordingly, the Commission intends to hold a selection process in order to identify suitable candidates to recommend for nomination by the Government in accordance with Article 253 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU (TFEU).

The application process is now open for Judge of the CJEU.

The closing date for applications and references is 5pm on Monday 31st August 2026.

Applicants must register, complete and submit their application through the online portal which can be accessed from the Commission’s website.
