Winners Announced - #INNBalance” Photography Competition 2025

We are delighted to share the results of the second edition of our #INNBalance Photography Competition!

Over Long Vacation (August – September) members, students, alumni, and staff of King’s Inns were invited to capture a key moment or highlight across a wide range of areas: life moments, experiences, locations visited, people, connections with nature. The response was inspiring, with a range of beautiful submissions.

Our independent adjudicator Conor McCabe says:

It’s a real pleasure to be asked judge King’s Inns Summer Photography Competition. As a professional photographer, I know how much passion and effort goes into every image, and the standard this year has been truly impressive. Judging wasn’t easy — every photograph told its own story and showed real talent. Thank you to everyone who took part for sharing your photos."

Our 2025 Winners

After careful deliberation, Conor selected the following winners:

1st place - Alan Wolohan -Above a sea of clouds, Mount Donard

The winning photograph, Above a Sea of Clouds, Mount Donard, stood out for its breathtaking composition and depth. The silhouetted figures against the warm glow of the sunset perfectly capture a sense of peace, connection, and awe at nature’s beauty. The balance between light and shadow, and the way the horizon meets the clouds is perfectly captured. It’s a moment that feels timeless — beautifully seen and beautifully captured.

2nd place - Jonathan Hayes -Small wheels, endless horizons

The second prize goes to Small Wheels, Endless Horizons. I was drawn to this image for its sense of freedom and joy. The young girl, cycling along the pier wall, is perfectly centered, and the black-and-white tones give it a timeless, elegant feel. It’s a simple scene, beautifully captured, that really makes you feel the moment.

3rd place - Róise Ní Mhaonaigh - Errigal Mountain

The third prize goes to Errigal Mountain, a stunning image that beautifully captures the warmth and calm of a summer evening. The golden light sweeping across the mountain creates a wonderful sense of depth and atmosphere. The photographer’s use of natural light and balance in the composition gives the scene a peaceful yet powerful presence — a truly evocative landscape.

Special mentions go to:

Honorable mention 1 - Paul Lavin - The Long Vocation, a student prepares for the Entrance Exams

The honorable mention goes to The Long Vocation, A Student Prepares for the Entrance Exams. I loved how this image captures a moment of focus and dedication. The desks, filled with books, laptops, and study materials, tell the story of students working hard toward their goals. It’s a simple scene, but full of character and purpose.

Honorable mention 2 - Emma Kelly - Harry in the Perfect Workplace on Earth

The honorable mention goes to Harry in the Perfect Workplace on Earth. I loved this image for its pure joy and calm. Harry, sitting on the bench, takes in the sunny landscape and blue sky — a perfect moment of contentment captured beautifully.

Honorable mention 3 - Clionadh O'Donovan - Clinging to procedural fairness

The honorable mention goes to Clinging to Procedural Fairness. This tiny figurine, gripping the seatbelt on the bus, is full of humor and character — a clever little moment that makes you smile.

Congratulations to all our winners and participants for sharing their amazing images.
